The opening conference of the IPA Fundamental Rights project titled “Strengthening the Rights and Conditions of Women in Prisons in Türkiye in line with International and EU Standards” was held on March 31, 2026, at the Ulucanlar Museum in Ankara, with the participation of Deputy Minister of Justice Burak Ceyhan and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Director for EU Affairs Ambassador Mehmet Kemal Bozay.
With a budget of approximately 4.5 million EUR and an implementation period of 45 months, the project aims to establish gender-responsive and human rights-based prison management policies and practices in line with EU and international standards.
The project to be implemented in partnership with the Council of Europe will contribute to enhancing sectoral cooperation among public institutions, the private sector, and civil society organizations in supporting the social reintegration of women in prisons, as well as strengthening the economic and social rehabilitation of female offenders in pilot prisons and probation directorates.
