The importance of protecting fundamental rights, as well as the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, and the elderly during disasters, was once again underscored by the devastating earthquakes that struck Türkiye in 2023.

In this context, two key documents have been developed with contributions from experienced experts and international organizations:

• The “Mapping Study on Disaster Risk Reduction from a Fundamental Rights Perspective”, which compiles relevant international standards, and

• The “Guide and Checklist on Fundamental Rights and Gender-Sensitive Disaster Management”, aimed at integrating these standards into disaster preparedness and response efforts.
